Square Specifications

For those of you who want to contribute:

The specs:

  • Worsted weight acrylics, washable acrylic blends, or superwash wool (most of my yarn is good ol’ God Bless American thrift stores Red Heart.)
  • 7” squares
  • G-H hook if crochet, 6-8 needle if knit. Don’t make chain mail, but don’t make a tennis net, either. ;)

Sizes:

  • Baby: go easy on these. I know they are quick and fun, but the kids and adults are more in need of adequate-sized blankets. Baby blankets should be 40” x 40”. If you want to do an individual one of these rather than sending squares, let me know.
  • Twin: (66”x90”) Blankets at the shelter need to tuck around the mattress. An afghan of 7” squares would be an 8x13 layout, before joining and border. One afghan would need 104 squares.
  • Full/Queen: (90”x90”) Blankets at the shelter need to tuck around the mattress. An afghan of 7” squares would be a 13x13 layout, before joining and border. One afghan would need 169 squares.
Now, ideally, you’re a Bay Area person who wants to join in, but if you want to mail squares from France or China, I won’t stop you. And thank you. Times are hard, and this area has seen many families out on the street. Contact me directly if you want to mail things my way. sandy4sjsu at gmail dot com
